Home in a Tree

Yesterday when mom went out to check the mail she saw this in one of our trees. We can't see it from our windows but we looked at the pictures mom took. Can you see the momma bird in the tree?

It's a Dove! It's about thirty feet up in the air. Mom took these pictures from the third floor walkway.

Here's the momma dove up closer. It's kind of blurry so you can't see the wonderful stick nest she built. The wind was beginning to pick up when this picture was taken and our mom kept going back to check on the momma dove and make sure she was O.K. in all that wind. Then, one time in the midst of the branches swaying and the wind blowing pretty fiercely, there was a little head that peeked up! A baby dove's tiny head! The momma dove was hovering over it and pushing it down with her wing and body so it would be safe in all the wind.

This morning mom checked again and the little family survived the wind storm!

Have a happy week all!

Wow, we've never seen an actual nest! We don't know how birds know how to build a sturdy enough home to survive in our winds, but we're glad they do!

Yay! I'm do happy the nest and babies were okay. We have doves in our yard too but we have never seen their nest. Probably because there are eleventy seven thousand trees around here.

Thank you for your words of experience about feral cats. We hope for the best for our little friend and feel in our hearts that he will be ok and get a good home. :)

Thanks for sharing the wonderful news. Good thing your mom had a camera to take a great shot of them. They are pretty high up there. Can't wait to see the baby doves soon. Have a great upcoming weekend.
