Answer: Because it keeps the dust out of them when it's not ski season.
They aren't real sunflowers. We can't have real flowers because we have been know to attempt to eat them.

Mmmmmm, eating real flowers is fun. Lucy specially likes roses and baby breath.
I just have to tell you, I WON! I've successfully killed all the plants. Mom got rid of the last 2 real ones at our house and now she has nothing but fake plants. They're not good for chewing, though.
